The tramp is the only clown type created in the United States. The Tramp is the clown who is always down on his luck, who never has anything going for him, but always retains a glimmer of hope that his luck will someday change. Wheeler (left) currently performs as a tramp, but the most famous examples of this clown type include Weary Willie, Otto Griebling, and Red "Freddie the Feeloader" Skelton.
