The original Auguste Clown wore no makeup (except perhaps a little around the eyes) and had elegant costumes. He tried to look sauve and sophisticated, but of course always failed.

Clown Hall of Fame Inductee Paul Fratellini (1877-1940) was a classic example of the Original Auguste Clown .
